Ota Kříž had passed basic military service in war-marine and had worked as machinist in steam-navigation

company in Terst.

He had been engaged in grade machinist and officer in The second austria-hungary expedition to the North Pole

on steam yacht "Víceadmirál Tegetthoff"

(carried out from 13^th june 1872 to 3^th august 1874),

leaded by two explorers:

initializator of international institute cooperation Karel Weyprecht and topographer, geographer and painter

Julius Payer.

 The expedition have found the Land of Franz Josef, the northest island group on eastern hemisphere,

which is belonged to the Russia nowdays.

Kříž hadn´t seen triumhal return through of his 23 bold companions,

stayed in this bleak end nearly two years.

He had fallen ill with dead diseases and died on 16^th march 1874.

He was burried on 19^th march in The Land of Franz Josef on Wilczek island.

His tomb is the northist situated Czech tomb.

As pole explorer he had utilized his affluent knowledge to advantage, obtained at piaristic school in Kroměříž.

He had written artic diary on the expedition, which was brief press-published in Germany language

by his brother Antonín in Vienna 1875.

Clear avails were used on the construction of monument in Pačlavice.

One group of islands, which were discovered by the Weyprecht-Payer expedition 

with Ota´s assistence were called as

Stolička islands by worth of the native from Pačlavice. 

(Phdr. Ferdinand Stolička, born in Zámeček near Kroměříž in 1838,

world-noted geologist, who has worked in India twelve years and as partner of expeditions to Himalayas

died on the third of these ways in Murghi in the course of Karakorum mountains in 1874)
