original painting in the personal collection
No. 311 Bomber Squadron was formed at Honington, Suffolk, on 29th July, 1940.
Thanks to the masterful hardwork of its airmen and leaders the squadron was soon ready for action
and would be acknowledged as one of the best in Bomber Command.
Their first combat mission was on the night of 10th/11th September, 1940,
when Brussels railway station was attacked as part of Bomber Commands
forgotten role in the Battle of Britain.
"KX-R" was the first aircraft of No. 311 Sq bombing the enemy territory.
